Al-Munawwarah is an Islamic-based academic institution located in the center of Mombasa Island in the Republic of Kenya. The foundation stone for the building was laid in 1988. Through the efforts and great contributions of the Muslim community in the region and abroad, construction of the first phase was completed in 1990. In the same year, the school opened its door for the first batch of students among both boys and girls.
The first phase of the school building had three floors (with ground floor) consisting 33 classrooms, a library, a school hall for activities, administrative offices and 2 staff rooms for teachers.
In the second phase, the school was expanded to include a special wing for female students with its complete facilities to separate the boys section from girls. Since then both boys and girls attend their classes concurrently during the same days and at the same time. The Islamic school aims to teach Islamic knowledge and to preserve the Islamic identity by educating young people from tender age.
